All I know about this guy is that (iirc) Evola mentions some of his writings in Ride the Tiger.

I tried reading Tropic of Cancer but found it too unfocused. I enjoyed it but didn't see the point in finishing it. Is his other work more cohesive or is it all just messy stream of consciousness waffle?

What can you say about him? What other writers would you liken him to so that I can get an idea of whether to read him or not?

He’s a socialist. Muh noble working class type of writer. Death of a salesman is the most simplistic socialist propaganda you’ll ever read

I just find him inspiring and his writing just clicks with me. He can be uneven at times but when he is on he’s among the best IMO. Miller made a career of writing about himself, his experiences, his thoughts, his journey to becoming a writer. He basically has two types of books, the banned kind, which are mostly tame, comic, and trying to prove a point, and his more spiritual work. The main idea of Miller is that society sucks and is getting worse. Modern man has lost all spirituality and “life”, and is basically a cog in the machine nowadays. He relates his experiences and thoughts on how to break free. Leaving for Paris to become a writer was the biggest part of his life and symbolic. He struggled in many ways but became more free. He talks about books, writers and topics a lot which interest me, and I have gotten a treasure trove of recommendations from him. Thematically, he’s similar to Celine, who was a big influence on him, but there are many other books as well. Miller considered his four horsemen to be Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, Spengler, and Elie Faure. It’s kinda hard to put into words why I like him so much, he just speaks to me, and has been a jumping off point for much of my reading interests
