Any nonfiction books on the idea that an atheist show follow the tenets of Christianity, go to church, and live as though it were real even if they don't actually believe?

>> No.23137010

that's dishonest but if yo're an atheist i guess it doesn't matter

Dishonest? It's trying your best and hoping something enlightening happens and at worst trying to live a moral life.

There's a part in On Being A Pagan, a book about comparative theology, which discusses why Judeo-Christianity is fine with atheism.

Only jews and their useful idiots use that terminology

Even Christians don't understand the tenets of Christianity considering they can never agree. Go to church if you want to participate in a mellow local community and you're okay with some cult rituals. Otherwise find other ways to develop yourself.

I would recommend the Liji (禮記) by Confucius
while it does not talk about Christianity (as it did not exist at the time), it makes a case for why one should carry out rituals, ancestor worship, sacrifices etc, despite not believing in any of them

Many people will do this but without articulating it so explicitly. Sometimes you do get explicit meme quotes like the Dostoevsky one that people post every two days, but it also takes the form of "embracing irrationality," "finding God in irrationality," etc. Start with some of the authors Camus accuses of committing "philosophical suicide."

On the off-chance that this isn't just bad-faith trolling: you're looking for ethics. In the philosophy section.
Read your fill and draw your own conclusions.

It's not like Nietzsche critiqued atheists from his own time saying they are atheists only in name, yet still adhere to Christian morals and ethics.
