Jordan Peterson’s personality and politics aside, is 12 rules for life actually a good book?

I would describe every chapter as it’s good until it suddenly isn’t. At the end of the chapter when he is summarizing the point and getting very preachy it’s kind of insufferable, but I found the way he gradually injects his point in chapter 1 through the example of the lobster to be really elegant and not forceful.

It's just the same old shit that gets published all the time and is quarantined in bookstores to the self development section, containing self-evident and obvious affirmations that won't actually be followed by the type of people hopeless enough to buy crap like this.

It's extremely unfocused and jumpy. As far as I remember I only read half of it or so and couldn't stand more. What works as public speaking - Peterson's endless tangents and hopping on every association that comes to his mind - just doesn't work as text, and he didn't even try to give it proper form and editing, it's just 12 Petersonian rants. One of the books where the wiki summary is enough.

>clinical psychologist who spent decades personally helping hundreds of people severely afflicted by mental illness
>academic who published dozens of widely cited papers ranging in subjects varying from practical counseling, historical/philosophical roots of psychology, research paradigms in neurology...
>research scientist working on the operationalization of personality constructs as well as the neurobiological basis of addiction
>university professor who mentored dozens of grad students into academic, research, and counseling careers
>assisted in the development of software that increases the likelihood of at-risk students reaching graduation as a side project
>accidentally became internationally famous and ended up publishing 2 best selling books (so far) as well as organizing lectures in various countries throughout the world

Still triggering trannies who don't like the truth, libtards who propagandize, racists he won't associate with, and pseuds who can't tell the difference between a media personality and real life.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty inspiring stuff. I still think about it often and view it as legitimately great advice. Seeing anons shit all over him and his work for arbitrary reasons used to enrage me after I first listened to 12 Rules because I couldn’t understand why they hated him so much, but it can’t be helped.

If you’re curious, then I suggest checking it out OP. There is absolutely nothing in the book to suggest that he wasn’t being logical and sincere when he wrote it.

This is pretty stupid. You could reduce anything this way. Peterson's whole thing was using psychiatry and evolution and whatever else to justify "common sense ideas" that weren't so common and were often vilified (such as hierarchies being natural). He was using extensive justification for presenting an alternate worldview to young men mislead by the mainstream.

Never read it, so i guess my opinion is irellevant, but

>Table of Contents:
> Stand up straight with your shoulders back
> Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping
> Make friends with people who want the best for you
> Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today
> Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them
> Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world
> Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)
> Tell the truth--or, at least, don't lie
> Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't
> Be precise in your speech
> Do not bother children when they are skateboarding
> Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street.
Sounds like a collection of 'live laugh love' '''rules''' that are either obvious or meaningless.

Also, don't pet random animals without the owner's consent.

It's just "touch grass" but worded differently, stop being so autistic.
He basically outlines basic psychotherapy approach with steps to try and follow it yourself, no wonder this place rejects him. We reject help, we enjoy our misery.
