I've acquired one of these a couple gays ago. I have a lot of pirated pdfs and have downloaded a couple thousand .mobi books. I've downloaded and be messing around with calibre and it's a really neat tool to sort files and convert them properly.

My question is: should I worry about amazon tracking down my pirated stuff? Should I avoid sending it to myself though calibre e-mail thingy, should I not keep wireless on? Etc., etc.

No, nothing to worry about with Amazon, but keep your wireless off anyway to extend your battery life.

Don't use your Kindle to browse the web. Don't be that casual

Lots of pirated PDFs might have text too small to read, so try to stick to .mobi files. Also, there are TONS of great classic books which you can download for free on amazon. Dostoevsky, Joyce, Twain, and many others are completely free.

Hmm, good to know. Web browser seems way too slow to be viable for everyday use.

I've used Calibre converting thingy on a couple PDF's to test it, and yeah, if it's a double column one the final result isn't that great. I've checked amazon store, but didn't find a "free section", is there such a thing or I have to search for copyright free authors one by one?

I pirate like my last name is Morgan Drake, and haven't had any problem with Amazon. Their system automatically tracks stuff you buy so you can only download it in a certain number of devices (number varies depending of the publisher), but it doesn't really give a fuck if you add drm-free books.

Turn off your wireless, conserves batteries and if you're just downloading them there's no reason to have it on ever.

Amazon has some free kindle books available, pretty much just some random classics here and there. There's a section within the site where you can refine the search to free books.

Have you figured out how to display the PDFs in horizontal vs vertical? To change the text size / spacing / zoom?

Read that Kindle help file. It will open up the device for you.

Search "free kindle" on amazon, or just try various classical writers at random. If its a classic writer, theres about a 50% chance that all their stuff is free on amazon. Hemingway, for example, is not free, so I had to pirate all his stuff.

You can also browse their main catalog and sort titles by price from lowest to costier. Most of the times you'll see a bunch of $0.0 books and those are indeed free. They process it as an usual order, but don't charge you a thing.

Nice. Thanks for the tips y'all. I'll check the books and keep the tips in mind.
