200 pages in... does it get any better?

>> No.3316425

I haven't even read this book, so I won't even say much about it.

I'm just here to say this is the worst kind of thread and you should feel retarded for it. "Does it get better?" Give me a break and fuck off.

>> No.3316438

It does.
Bolanus is at his weakest when writing about the love-life of boring academics.

It's 800 pages long and I want some ideas of whether or not I should waste my time.

Oh, fuck off. Everyone knows the worst kinds of threads are DFW or American undergraduates pretending they understand philosophy.

There are plenty of books are weak/dry for hundreds of pages before picking up and engrossing the reader. In my experience The Magic Mountain, War & Peace, In Search Of Lost Time, Anna Karenina all fit the bill.

OP - sorry not read it.

>> No.3316491

I read it this summer and loved it. It kept getting better for me .

DFW threads are usually leagues better than ones like this

So you're in Part II already? The style doesn't change during the rest of the book (except for Part IV but it doesn't change in a friendly way there). I loved all of it but thought Parts I, II and V the best so make of that what you will.

I'd say give it up. Or read By Night In Chile, which is considered to be his best short work, and see how you feel about him.

I heard The Savage Detectives is better, OP. Might want to give that a try?

This person has not read the book.

I have read the book twice actually. Although some years ago.

It's an easier read, more exciting. I found 2666 to be much better overall though.

I'm just gonna stick with it. There is some charm there, and some bits are quite enjoyable. It's just that nothing at all is happening.

I really like the parts were they talk about their dreams.

Personally I found Savage Detectives to be a more challenging read than 2666
>Part 2, 40+ narrators....

>> No.3316755

I'd say stick with it, the first and last parts are greatly different to the others.

Bolano is a period piece. His excess attracts and fades away.
