Hello /lit/

Help me find the name of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez book I read about 10 years ago in high school.

The story is somewhat similar to that of Steinbeck's "The Pearl" but unfortunately this has meant the two stories have woven together in my mind and I find it very difficult to describe either of them and be sure that I am not including elements of the other.

It's a short book.
It involves a man whose wife is sick, or certainly a person with a sick family member.
The book involves trying to find someone to help, trying to get medicine etc.
The last line of the book is something like "Everything is shit".
