I have to write a short essay on his historical dialectic for next week for a gen-ed course.

I really like idealist dialectic, after reading his lectures on history (the usual introductory text to Hegel). I wish I could read more of it. All the philosophy of history I have read has been materialist, sociological or only barely metaphysical. I haven't gotten into his metaphysics yet but I'm really excited to.

i am supremely distrustful of his work because all of my experiences have led me to believe that 2 is the worst number ever.

wherever i see twos, dualities, or dichotomies, i see problems and mistaken assumptions.

to anyone that want's to really understand Hegel, this is the book to read: http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Hegels-Logic-Hackett-Classics/dp/0872204243

it's only about 150 pages but is an excellent summary of the most important and most ignored part of his work, his Logic. I think most problems people have with Hegel are not understanding some of the fundamentals of his outlook that he establishes in his logic (and the phenomenology to a lesser extent)
