You mean a book that people claim to hate despite having an unbeareable need to discuss it daily? I'd say Infinite Jest, Ulysses, The Brothers Karamazov or Crime & Punishment.

And Murakami in general.

>> No.4036758

I guess lit has a triumvirate (Gravity's rainbow / Ulysses / Infinite jest).

All of them great books. Gravity's rainbow is the universally liked, Ulysses and IJ both have a love/hate relationship going on, most people deeply go one direction or another.

Most people love one, like one, hate one.

personally, I go IJ>GR>>U

>personally, I go IJ>GR>>U

My ranking is the same. Infinite Jest has the benefit of cultural proximity so it spoke to me the clearest out of the three. Depression, addiction and the difficulties of establishing true interpersonal relationships are themes which are close to my heart. Ulysses is something I think I'll appreciate more with age and experience.

It's originally a tumblr thing. On 4chan people just seem to use it to marginalise opinions they don't like by suggesting the poster is ugly/autistic/Republican. Most people who use it seem to not fully understand the particular associations of the term and just use it interchangeably with other popular buzzwords like "edgy" and "hipster". Yeah, 4chan has really gone to shit.

Perhaps it's not aged terribly well.
But it will never be irrelevant as a specimen on the evolutionary ladder of the fps genre.

I wouldn't say Drive advanced the medium of film like Halflife 2 advanced it;s own medium.
This is not a judgement of the quality of either, but a mere observation based on their impact on their medium.
