Alt lit thread?

Yes

I think we should refer to it as "slipshod lit".

>2013

At least Lin himself is that awkward lovable underdog you want to root for.
The rest are just stinky hipsters who want to con you out of your coin.

What is the problem with those two pages? It reflects perfectly the level of dialogue between young people now. The minimalist approach conveys how boiled down interaction now is, with online instant messaging being the normal mode of contact between people. If you find something distressing, or just plain banal about it, then that is good, that's the intended effect.

Richard Yates manages to pull off that aesthetic perfectly, the only problem is the repetition. It feels like half of a great novel. Apparently Taipei is meant to have the other half he's always been missing so far.

i picked up Tai Pei three days ago, just finished it to see whether he's really that horrible/unique/amazing, and I didn't know what to expect. All I could think of afterwards was 2mg Xanax and peripheral vision.

What is the point? I might as well write dialogue between two ignorant gangster thugs who cannot pronounce a single word correctly, just because it's "realistic" doesn't make it valuable.

I enjoyed Taipei, my first alt-lit novel, so what should I read next? I was thinking either Shoplifting from American Apparel or Person by Sam Pink.
