Is there a /lit/ consensus on this? /mu/ seems to have stopped talking about it and even there I don't think anyone really read it to begin with. Is it true it doesn't have chapters? Do you just read it in one shot, then? Thinking of asking for it for Christmas.

It doesn't have chapters. It's a pretty funny read, and well written at times, but it falls apart by the end.

If I'm going to be honest, it just reinforced how I felt about Morrissey before I started reading it... how I loved the person he used to be, and his work with the Smiths... and how I hate the person he became, bitter and vain.

It's still a funny read, but the quality drops as the book goes on, which is fitting, as I doubt half it's audience, who were instagramming pictures of themselves with it, got more than fifty pages in.

Is not having chapters a common thing or is Morrissey just an asshole?

Both

/lit/ doesn't have a consensus and my opinion about the Morrissey book, altough I haven't read it, is that it's shit.

He's the lead singer of some middle-brow pop band from the 80s

Everyone is so mad because he said "jump" and Penguin Classics said "how high?",
despite the Penguin Classics imprint supposedly being for books that have stood the test of time and become, y'know, classics, as opposed to autobiography of faded celebrity.
Basically some high-up at Penguin is a Smiths fan and destroyed all the credibility the brand has carved for itself over the past 65 years in one fell swoop.

I don't think there's anyone pop music that is anything more than low brow, unless you are strictly talking about lyrics and not music

If I was Sunhawk I wouldn't be here
I'd be on a train or in a park somewhere reading Junot Diaz and wondering why no-one will talk to me

I like mozzo. I love the Smiths though, so I'll read it eventually... just haven't moved anything out of the way to make time for the big "autobiography".

the fact that you think metal would be lower than hipster stuff means you probably don't even know music theory.

the only middle brow things would be jazz fusion (or any jazz that isn't predominantly improvised) and some of the prog rock bands who don't try to act within a blatantly pop framework (so, not stuff like Genesis). I would even add some higher tier metal but idiots who judge things by timbre wouldn't understand.
