Well, first of all you should go through Kant. In order to get Kant you need to go through the Rationalists and Empiricists.
I'd also suggest going through Plato(aka Socrates) and Aristotle. Top it off with some pre-Socratics for good measure.

I have to disagree.

I have prolonged reading anything because I wanted to read the classics first so I could hang on the text of more recent philosopher like Nietzsche and Kant meanwhile my friend started read right away Schopenhauer etc. and had no problems and then I started reading them too because they interested more.

So: if you're interested of someones work just read it. If you really can't understand his text then a) study more of the writer (what's his themes and meaning of vocabulary) and his books or b) read classics to get the references

Parerga and Paralipomena is his most readable and aphoristic work. No knowledge of his philosophy is required to read the articles therein. If you cannot afford the full version, a decent selection thereof is found in the Penguin volume Essays and Aphorisms.

World as Will and Representation is pretty impenetrable (the second one, in particular, has lengthy critiques of several other post-Kantian philosophers) but it was Borges' favorite book of metaphysics so it has that going for it which is nice. Schopenhauer himself recommends reading On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason as an introduction. This was his doctoral dissertation and founds the cornerstone of his thought.

I think he also has a work out called On Arguing or How to Win and Argument which is a fairly amusing read about how to piss people off when they refuse to engage your arguments intellectually and logically.
