Is it socially acceptable to read Lolita in public?

>> No.4588605

Yes it's a classic.

>> No.4588610

yes.

>> No.4588611

I've been doing it. I'm socially acceptable.

>> No.4588616

Only if you wear baggy trousers to disguise your erection.

>> No.4588620

When in a public situation I prefer to study its subject matter more directly.

This. Even normalfags find Lolita erotic.

Such pedobait surely can't exist IRL.

Something I've been noticing is that the terms "Lolita" and "nymphet" have been slowly exiting the popular lexicon, to the point where only people who have a passing to intimate knowledge of either the source (Nabokov's novel) or the various erotic offshoots (deviant porn, anime, whatever) would even notice it. Most people who I've talked to about the book either legitimately don't know what it's about or consider it a classic.
So yeah, go right ahead. I you do manage to get any weird looks, just shrug them off.

I wouldn't know, I did it too.

They study it in school, so why not?

Depends on if you're doing it because you actually appreciate it or if you're just trying to be edgy like OP's pic.

Probably cause he knows from first hand experience that if he hadn't been able to get his hands on a firearm then he wouldn't have been able to kill anybody.

Just saying.

What an interesting situation. Someone needs to do this as a hidden camera prank, or even Dateline could use it to catch a predator

I think my brain would straight up stop working if I saw a <13 girl reading Lolita

Related to what >>4588642 said, are there really people who are intelligent enough to know what "Lolita" is but dumb enough to take an issue with you reading it? Unless it's been on the news in the past few months, no one's going to think you're raping babies with your buddy Lucifer.

I read Lolita on a bus to/from work (in NYC). I remember one time while I was reading it, a woman got on with her young daughter (maybe around 8-10 years old), and told her to go sit in the open seat next to me. I shit my pants.

It was this cover, by the way.

At first I thought the pic was real. Then I realized snoop dog can't read and image searched, and he was reading the book of mormon...hahahaha.

>> No.4595205

>>4588642
I think people still know the term but don't know exactly what it means. When my little sister was like eleven years old my mom told her to cover herself up in front of older men so she wouldn't become a Lolita or something like that. I don't think she's read the book though.

>> No.4595235

The way I see it is: plebs wont know what Lolita is or what it's about and people who do know what it is will be aware its stature in the literary would and wont be wondering "why is that weirdo reading a pedo book?".

That's what people see when they read Lolita in Tehran. Now it's like you're reading Lolita in Tehran too, unless you're trying to read it left-to-right, which AT I LOL.

People are allowed to do or say something and then change their minds. I also don't see how he's a sellout when his lyrics have mostly stayed the same his entire career. He's not stupid either.

It's a young girl's lips. It's nowhere near as bad as some covers but it's enough that if someone was vaguely aware of the novel and had a negative idea of it, they would more readily catch onto what book it is.

Would never make that connection had I not already read the book.
I have the cover that is in OP's shopped photo. That could possibly carry a negative connotation.
