Let's face it:

/lit/ would love Franzen if he looked cool.

I would love him if he didn't literally stop his books to tell me about the environment. It's like they have ad breaks, except the ads are informercial-length and hosted by Al Gore wearing a Franzen character meat suit.

Also he is all substance and no glamour, which is just fucking drudgery. Especially when the substance is not substantial.

even if you "looked cool" nobody would like you

>> No.4989681

i think he's quite dashing

doesn't make me like him any more

C'mon now, only Freedom is the only one like that. The Corrections barely touches on that, same for Strong Motion.

He has always looked like a Muppet but I would think him a bore, his adulation of Edith Wharton disturbing, and his translation in The Kraus Project a monumental waste of time.

A certain subsection of /lit/ would love him if he looked cool, yeah. The subsection that pushes the idea that your ability to write well is intrinsically linked to how many drugs you've done & how cool you look as you moodily smoke a cigarette while leaning on the hood of a car as the sun rises over the Nevada desert & all that shit.

But not everyone on /lit/ is like htat. Thank god.
