I need a good read. Something 'intelligent' and inspiring.

Please exclude:

Carl Sagan
Stephen Hawking
Darwin
Anything relating to Greek or Latin

Why exclude those? Because when ever I ask for a good suggestion for a book, people always shoot those at me and immediately think they're 'well read'...so yeah...I could use some good suggestions. I'm on a book reading spree.

Bad books aren't worth reading; Great books should be read again and again.

Dawkins is pretty good on the Inspirational Science level. He's a man who really likes science, and is angry because other people dont, and he feels they're missing something great.

On the Smart Fiction front, Discworld and Hitchhiker's Guide are pretty smart. Discworld is pretty inspirational, too. Science of Discworld in particular is both.

On that subject, Jack Cohen and Ian Stewart seem like good science writers.
