Wheelock. Now go, autismo, and learn to the extreme!

>Wheelock

I really think it's suboptimal. It doesn't have you reading enough and just teaches you a lot of disjointed grammar rules and random vocabulary. After Wheelock when you try to read something real and difficult you puzzle it apart like a crossword puzzle rather than read it with pleasure like you would any other language. Orberg remedies this by exposing you to tons and tons of Latin right from the beginning so you don't have to memorize much at all you know the grammar by experience. You don't have to sit there and think "hmm is this an ablative of source or ablative absolute or dative of reference or maybe dative of the agent with that gerundive a couple of words back or...", you have enough experience that your brain juggles all of those concepts subconsciously and selects the correct one from the context of the sentence.

>autismo

What are you, underage? People have been learning Latin for thousands of years for pleasure and profit.

Knowing the grammar rules should come first. 'Juggling' is not a rigorous pedagogical technique.

Quidnam dixisti modo mihi, cinaedule? Ego te certiorem faciam me exiisse e Phocis Classiariis optimum meae ordinis et in frequentibus incursionibus occultis contra Al-Qaeda expertum esse, et plus quam trecentas caedes probatas habere. In bello guerilla educatus sum et ego sum optimus ictor in totis FC viribus armatis. Tu es nil mihi praeterquam aliud destinatum. Ego te, scelus, conteram adamussim ut numquam usquam visum est in orbe terrarum, annota mea, malum, verba. Arbitrarisne te posse illas contumelias dicere impune per interrete? Iterum arbitrare, nequam.

Well of course you learn the grammar rules but you learn them and practice tons of reading so you internalize them organically rather than know them only in the abstract.

"Juggling" grammatical concepts is not a pedagogical technique it's something you do subconsciously when you have learned a language properly.

Get a srs app like Anki.

Jenney's First Year Latin is goddamn fantastic.
It's out of print, but my whiteass private school still used them... had a full grasp of the language with ease just by doing the exercises and going through the chapters.
They're pricey, but you can easily find one online.

I'm a couple chapters in Lingua Latina now and while it's definitely useful, it's so unbelievably boring. I'm really looking forward into getting into actual Latin literature.
