Hi there lit.

I just came back from watching the Hobbit, and I'm in a fantasy kind of mood.

Normally I watch anime, read manga and play a lot of rpg games. But I want to expand my horizons by reading more books.

I've bought a couple of Light novels Like Accel world, Sword art online and Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon.

But I also recently bought The demon spirit by R.A. salvatore. It looks pretty cool, so I can't wait to read it.

My question is, what kind of western books would be interesting for someone like me?

I'm looking for something that could easily have been an anime or an rpg. Plus i'm wondering if there are any books out there that work with rpg game mechanics.

I'm writing a bit myself, and I'm looking for inspiration.

Or maybe some rpg inspired books that are based on games would be fine as well.

Also you won't find much help here with fantasy and young adult fiction. It's typically looked down upon here.

Well I tried the sticky, but since I'm looking for something kind of specific.

I was wondering if someone would point me in the right direction.

Go to the young adult subreddit for reddit.
They'll help you.

Pick up the Drizzt trilogy by Salvatore, pretty easy and fun stuff. If you haven't already, read the Lord of the Rings series. Other goodies include The Black Company, and the Malazan books are ok. Overall, just discover authors yiu enjoy and expand from there.

Friendly tip, /lit/ is not really the place to discuss genre fiction and YA, since the browsers here are very elitist when it comed to books, and much of the discussion revolves around classics, or authors who seek to advance literature.

There's nothing wrong with liking fantasy and such, just know not many here do.

This board is for discussion of literature, not the kind of light genre fiction you're looking for.

Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with wanting to read purely light easy to read genre fiction, I suggest you try the Harry Potter series or some similar 'young adult' fiction. Maybe Terry Brooks or something similar.
