I disagree with your view of the Universe as the ultimate opponent. Its "laws" were not imposed on us, and you are free to break them - there will be no reprimand if you do so. However, these "laws" were just discovered, they describe how the universe works, telling us not to abide by them, but that you simply cannot break them. The only way is to improve upon the observations of these "laws" and ultimately find a better model to describe them, until you have it all figured out. Its never preposterous. Perhaps it isn't possible, perhaps it is. I don't know whether or not the Universe is to us and we are to the cells or something altogether special. Sppeding up the entropy process would simply be giving the the Universe its own way. The solution is to find some way of breaking free from it altogether, something I have no idea how to do, but suspect is possible. If the Universe can exist of its accord, and exert total will of its own accord, its doesn't take a large leap of imagination to think we can too.
