I hate these threads because I consider myself a genius, despite only speaking one language. It makes me feel as dumb as I really am, and I cant have that.

Sage and report, frankly.

What's the most efficient method to learn greek? Or, a better question would be which resources do you all use? I speak decent spanish and a wee bit of german so I want to move on to either latin or greek and i'm more interested in greek.
I don't trust my local uni to be frank so local classes are sort of a last resort.

Native Greek here. It is quite similar, plus a few more accents and tenses and such that aren't used in modern Greek. We had to take a course for 3 years in high school in ancient Greek, I think a recent educational overhaul reduced that to 1 year though. Modern Greek, English and a choice between French or German were the other language classes.

A bunch of butthurt Anglos on this board will tell you that only English is worth learning because they still can't get over the fact that they'll only ever know and understand one language while a bunch of Africans get to know four before they reach half their age. You can ignore these comments.

Real talk though can people fluent in ancient Greek read the Iliad with proper fidelity? Do we have an adequate understanding of the language?

I bought the Fagles translation of Iliad and Odyssey at a used book for $10. They're very aesthetically pleasing, but I haven't read them yet.

Sorry OP, i'm too busy not studying ancient greek to read it in its native language. Surely I'm better off by not reading it at all.
