Was New Sincerity a failure? Will anyone remember it existed twenty, fifty, one hundred years from now?

>> No.6474136

He is extremely sincere in an entirely new manner.

I don't think there was any irony or cynicism in shitty melodramatic YA to rebel against.

>> No.6474415

New Sincerity is very much alive especially in this website

I think people will definitely be listening to Tupac 50 and 100 years from now, yeah. There's no doubt in my mind that he's one of the greats. I don't know if that means that New Sincerity as an idea will still be around, but I think the work of the great artists endures.

A movement will only be remembered if it produces enough works to leave a mark. How many works of New Sincerity are there?

Is this entry itself postmodern irony? Can it ever be escaped, or is the article on New Sincerity the exact place to expect it?

Actually, it's about as sincere as you can get.

>> No.6475015

Lol the cool thing about New Sincerity is that it's shit practically by definition.

>> No.6475197

I think the the very fact that millennial plebs like us are here gossiping about it on the internet 20 years later speaks to its success.

A romanticization of sincerity in the sense of a genre I think is what has failed - because it's boring as hell. Real life sincerity is tedious and quotidian.

Comparatively, memes and goofy nonsense can be a very sincere reaction to contemporary society. Sincere doesn't have to mean serious.

I don't know about you but I'm extremely sarcastic when I use memes and goofy nonsense.
