Go read some pre-modern aesthetics and you'll figure it out.

Originally, it means that your art obeys some hidden law or Platonic form and so pleases the senses of order and divinity.

A picture might be arranged to golden ratios, and your sense of aesthetics would apprehend this, even if you don't think "Hey, this is all ratios!"

Aesthetics also means recognizing and revealing the 'form' of something. For example, an aesthetic apple is a hyperperfect apple--it is the essential apple.
