I want to read The Bible, but I don't know of a good version, a good annotation companion (or just an annotated Bible), or where to even begin. Any suggestions?

KJV for poetry (Norton edition recommended), NSRV for a more faithful and modern translation (Oxford edition recommended).

And when actually reading it, just start at the beginning and read it through as in any other book.

I haven't read it but I have heard that King James Bible (or some shit like this) is nice, very poetic.

I was considering KJV because I just finished a Brit lit class, but I want it to be a historically accurate translation, not necessarily flowery, though I am interested in both. NSRV looks great. My family wasn't very religious so i am not super familiar. Thanks a lot.

I'd highly recommend the JPS Hebrew Bible as well.

see i'm most afraid of losing things to translation, though from what i understand this is impossible.
