Ausfag here, can anyone recommend some Australian literature that's any good? We are probably the least /lit/ country there is.

That's Brazil. Specially since we're right next to Argentina.

Might want to hold that praise because I live in Melbourne and it's as cucked as any "multicultural" European city.

Sorry mate but you swapped good weather for culture. We'll leave the surfing to you and you leave lit to us.

The usual banjo Patterson and henry lawson. But honestly that isn't all that relatable to a lot of people. Most of the people I knows parents weren't born here. Inb4 mud skin, I'm am Anglo

If you are a working class grub such as myself chopper reids first 4 books are good for a laugh. Gives you insight about unionism, crime, a whole lot of taboo shit

But to answer your question, no, not really, because I don't go to uni I can't even read literature at a library, have to buy it from the Internet

I'm a 6th generation Aussie descended straight from Van Diemen's Land so I do identify with those poems. Winton too I guess, but looking for more obscure stuff.

I think the convict population combined with the hard living of early Australian didn't make writers a common thing in early Australia

Keeping in mind what I said before I'm probably not the best person to discuss this with because I dont strongly identity with the niche Australian culture that would have to be addressed to be considered literature

I have seen a similar thread to this before and people have thrown out a few more recent Australian authors, but after giving them a look I didn't find anything stunning about them

I don't even thinks it's a derail. It's such an big issue in Australia not necessarily because of a racist attitude of some people or from the poor behaviour of some immigrants but how immigration has had a huge impact on this country. From the Brits and Irish in the 60's, the Vietnamese in the 70's, and the bunch of other yugo and Arabs to eventually the Chinese now

Immigration has had the biggest lasting influence in Australia out of any first world country, if someone were to write a contemporary piece of Australiana if would have to have immigrants somewhere in it
