Reading Phenomenology of Spirit now. Can't remember the last time I read anything that had such an appalling idea per words (IPH) ratio. Not even done with the preface yet and it's 90% padding. Is this a meme?

prefaces are always 90% padding

Wouldn't it be words per idea?

you fucked up. the preface should be read last. i know this is counterintuitive, but scholars suggest it since it essentially sums up the phenomenology. the dialectic has to progress is purposeful way in order for his conclusions to make any sense, which are disputed anyways.

anyways, read the foreword and then move on to sense certainty. reading the preface last is like the cherry on the top after making it through.

good luck on the "nature" section too.

Don't listen to this clown.

Watch those youtube videos that break it down part for part until you get the hang of it.

It's not just padding, you are probably just too stupid.

No. It's good, especially if you are a rigid thinker who wants to break out of old thought patterns. The freedom to move between different ideologies, instead of being chained to one in particular, is invaluable, and this book is an effective means for acquisition of that skill. You may have to read it more than once, though.

Not in the case of Hegel

Read more, complain less

You're supposed to fumble around with Hegel for a while, it's supposed to be a text that forces you to think in new ways and smack your preconceived N/notion(s) around.

When you finally grasp the first inkling of his genius that should be enough to keep you going.

You're supposed to read that book over and over again. Every new reading will give you better and deeper understanding. That's how dialectic works. That guys is a fucking wizard.

Jesus, he looks just like Werner Herzog.

You fucked up. It's precisely the opposite. Every sentence is crammed with as much explicitness and groundwork as he could fit in.
