We've all had those times when a book, even a great one, ruined something you liked. What are the most memorable?

Personally, I had planned to name my daughter Lolita. It's such a beautiful name (Humbert Humbert's flowery descriptions only made me like it more), but the book has cursed it in America.
I actually knew a woman for ten years thinking her name was Lee. Instead, she was too embarrassed to let others connect her with the book.

I don't know if this counts, but legal code (I imagine it is printed on paper at least) in my state have ruined the fact that I love to do Heroin, would love even more to do it openly and not be put in prison. Fuck that!

My name is Edward. I work in a bookstore.

speaking of names and ruining things, I would say the Harry Potter epilogue killed something in me. It's like having a really fantastic day, and then getting diarrhea that night.
On the topic of names, I'd name my daughters Aurelie and/or Aurora. "Gold" and "Dawn." Or perhaps Alice from Lewis Carrol's books.

I once heard of a teen mom who named her son Sephiroth. I've also heard of someone naming their daughter Bella after you know what...

A friend and I were just talking about the fact that Cullen isn't that uncommon a name. More than likely there is a guy out there named Edward Cullen. Feels bad.

Back when I thought Stephen King was the shit, I was terrified by clowns.

Isabella has become a top ten name now, I believe. Why anyone would name their child after a character that even fans agree is a bland self insert is beyond me.

I'd say keep it /lit/ related, but I feel so bad for you guys.

Manga ruined books for me. I used to read a book a day in school, and once read 200 books over summer vacation for a library contest. Then I found out how quickly and easily manga can be devoured. I've stopped my overt weabness, but it's been hard to go back to the way I was in middle/high school.

No no, you can't blame the drug. Manga didn't ruin books for you, YOU ruined books for you. But I know precisely what you mean. :/

And hey hey check this out guys: http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/most-popular-baby-names.htm

True, it was my fault. But for the longest time, I just couldn't get back into them.
Also:FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF all of my hate

Lolita ruined my immature hatred of classics, because it forced me to recognize that books made prior to the 80s could be enjoyable reads. I'm not saying I didn't realize they were important or poignant, but before I didn't want to read them.

I initially planed to name my daughter Isabella after a dear friend who has passed away. Then that God forsaken shithole was published and ruined it for me. I could just man up and just name her Isabella anyway, but I'm afraid that when I do I'll be reminded of Twilight and RAGE uncontrollably.

Steven King's sellout tactics.

I REALLY wish the evil in It was just that. EVIL.
No fucking backstory required.
Then I read THAT THE THING WAS A FUCKING ALIEN and I raged so hard.

It seems like it's his back up plan at times.

i work in a pharmacy in a less then desirable part of town. i get a lot of mothers on welfare, status native canadians fresh off the reservere and in town for there weekly batch of narcotics (for their unexplainable back pain) they can take back to the reserver and sell.

my point is, i get a lot of uneducated, low income, teenage mothers. I see on average two brand new infants a day, and I can assure, there are going to be a metric fuck of teenagers named edward, bella, isabella, izabella, cullen, and cullin in the next 15 years years.
