Why do Jay Dyer fanboys have to exist in real life? Arabs don't read. My mother teaches ESL to adult immigrants and she says that many of her Arab students read a novel for the first time in her class. One time she took her class to the university library, and one of the Saudi guys (who had a university degree) said he'd never been in a library before. I've read similar anecdotes elsewhere. It's pretty surprising to me, since Arabic definitely has a literary tradition.
