It was around 8 pm when he stumbled down the stairs covered in his own excrement with a ten mile stare. His parents knew what he'd done. This wasn't the first time, even in the last month. They should've kept a better eye on him.
As his father got his tightly fit, shit stained clothes off his son's obese body, he couldn't help but feel a lump in his throat swelling up. His boy wasn't always like this. There was once a time when he was completely normal, had lots of friends, a girlfriend, going to college, and had a decent future planned for himself. But all that changed after the accident. Now he has the mental capacity of a two year old and spends his days in his room all alone, watching anime and playing video games as the only form of visual stimulus his damaged brain can process. At the age of just 24, this is all he'd have for thevrest of his life.
The father helped his son into the shower and for the first time since the accident he made direct eye contact. Then his eyes welled with tears and he let out a gentle, child-like sob. His father knew there was still some humanity left, some of his old boy still remained. And he didn't want to continue living this way.
His father stepped out of the bathroom, thinning hair shrouding his face as he stared at the floor. Then he lifted his head and made eye contact with his wife who had been cleaning the floor. She knew what he was thinking, as she had known for a long time. Seeing her once bright, handsome young boy reduced to such a shell of his former self had driven her to a level of almost catatonia over the past few years, as she wasn't built to take care of a disabled person, but now she realized it was time for her and her husband to make things right for themselves and the son they once knew.
The father went upstairs to his room and got his shotgun ready. He remembered all the times he had taken his young son on hiking trips in the forest near their house, and how much he loved it. There was no better place for the end to happen. This would be their last hike.

How shall I behold the face
Henceforth of God or angel, erst with joy
And rapture so oft beheld? Those heavenly shapes
Will dazzle now this earthly with their blaze
Insufferably bright. O might I here
In solitude live savage, in some glade
Obscured, where highest woods, impenetrable
To star or sunlight, spread their umbrage broad
And brown as evening; cover me, ye pines;
Ye cedars, with innumerable boughs
Hide me, where I may never see them more.

I lack an interior monologue and rarely have thoughts. I've been almost completely anhedonic for the past three years, have no interests or passions, and am content to spend my time endlessly doomscrolling. I'm an NPC destined to sleepwalk through life and accomplish as much as I have accomplished thus far: nothing.

Recommend me literature for this feel that isn't A Man Asleep by Perec or The Stranger by Camus.

Bros.... Can someone recover from the idea that reading a book in translation is analogous to watching a film dubbed?

I'm about to finish a major on an academic field and it seems like the only option going forward will be working there. The problem is that I am a fraud, I have never cheated but I feel like I haven't learnt anything, barely read at all, and I'm at the top of my class. I don't know what's going to become of me.

The pessimists... the anti-natalists.... the nihilists.... they are all right.
All of them, this world is rotten, filled to the brim with rotten people and built upon a rotten structure.
The only thing that can fix this mess is a firm hand, someone to punish the wicked and provide the people with order and morality. Who will commit to this task? You? Reading this? No. Me? No. But someone.

This world cannot be written with books alone. How do we fix this mess? Any philosophy for it?!
