What does it mean to have “read” an author? Read 1 book by him or all of his books? Or does reading books about the books/ideas of said author count has having “read” the author?

If someone is motivated to learn he will do it on his own, what people need is a good diet, clean beverages, lot's of exercise and pleasant socialization. You can't force the fruit to ripen.

How do people not get this?

I feel attracted to women when theyre not nude, but as soon as the clothes go off, i just feel immense disgust at the human body. Ive never had a desire to actually have sex with a woman because of this. But i still want love and a relationship, it's just that the thought of sex repulses me.

Needless to say, i have never found a woman who will settle for this. I also wonder what psychologically went wrong that i turned out like this. I know why they’ve done this so this is more or less rhetorical but why do philosophers try to downplay Heidegger’s support for the third Reich? My whole life people have made the claim he did it opportunistically and begrudged the Nazis privately but I was shocked to find full throated endorsements and praise by him for the Nazis and Hitler. What’s more is that they were made quite early too. it’s not exactly difficult to find either. He never recanted Nazism publicly or privately except for one *alleged* instance and then only ambiguously.

People sort of do the same thing to Nietzsche with their left wing reinterpretations. it’s true he disdained contemporary German nationalism/volkische movements but only to counter it with a pan-Europeanism racialism. Regardless, Nietzsche was an enormous influence on the interwar fascist movements even if he was only tepidly antisemitic. The claim that Nazis/his sister selectively edited his work is exaggerated in large part and even with the interpolations excised his philosophy of (a)morality, religion, and ethics definitely anticipate fascism.
