It's probably more responsible than any other book for getting the entire cyberpunk genre going.
It's a classic.

Positive.
ATP's first line is too long.
>>THROUGH this evening's tide of faces unregistered, unrecognized, amid hurrying black shoes, furled umbrellas, the crowd descending like a single organism into the station's airless heart, comes Shinya Yamazaki, his notebook clasped beneath his arm like the egg case of some modest but moderately successful marine species.

See? Too long. Neuromancer's first line is beautiful in its simplicity.

Is there a more perfect first sentence to any book?
No.

As a kid I read the fuck out of some Hardy Boys books.
First adult book I can remember reading was Dune.

Not sure who it was a few days ago that suggested I check out a book called The Yiddish Policeman's Union, but maximum brofist to you, anyway. Good stuff and just what I was looking for.

He's not named after Ayn.

When there's no chance of hockey being talked about, I use ESPN for white noise.

OP, read the entire Odyssey quadrilogy. They're good books.
If you like things explained, check out Stephen Baxter.
There's also the Dune series, but stick with the ones written by Frank Herbert, the ones by his son suck.
Some of FH's other scifi stuff is really good, too.

Read the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons.

Ringworld by Larry Niven.

The Heechee series by Frederick Pohl is also good.
