>> No.6848751 [View]

op, your chart says that eastern orthodoxy is an offshoot of roman catholicism, but as i understand it it is the other way around. anyone have an opinion on the matter?

yeah and it wouldn't do to read just any happy book after the idiot. only the brothers k imo can atone for the tragedy of that book. this is because, atleast this is how i see it, alyosha is a kind of "resurrection" of the prince, a second chance for him at life.[\spoiler]

no there is always an ulterior motive

unless of course its a philosophy of love or some such thing.

philosophy is too broad a term

mild spoilers in this post:

i hope you haven't started brothers k yet, because you should read the idiot first. brothers k ends on a positive note, whereas the idiot...yeah, there is a serious risk of emotional devestation so be warned.

the maybe not so obvious fallacy here is that person "b" in this scenario has many other concerns in his life and many other things that he wants, so that there is only a limited amount of effort he can dedicate to each concern. this is why we have social and governmental institutions: to tackle these minds of problems that require large scale organization and coordination

i think sex is often just a form of mutual, and sometimes one-sided, masturbation. love, not the sappy romantic variety, but a "sexual love" based on a polarity between the sexes (meaning simply that in the relationship "the man is a man" and "the woman is a woman") represents something higher and more refined than the typical kind of "animal" sexual relations most people experience. this is not at all an original idea, i got this particular formulation of the concept from "the metaphysics of sex" which is a great book.

personally i find unconditional love a la prince myshkin (alternatively read: jesus christ) to be more powerful, but this is probably a matter of personal taste..

i would modify your definition of intellectual to "someone who is preoccupied with ideas, an not necessarily a creator of ideas".

Since Newton was already brought up, can anyone recommend me books that deal specifically with his religious/mystical/occult beliefs?
