There must be intense scrutiny in our field for even the slightest tic in a man can mean damage to the research itself. Intellectual Independence is a a phrase that is logically fallible in itself. It
contradicts itself because you can not be an intellectual at once and claim independence. There are strict laws by which we must uphold ourselves when tampering with something as delicate as the way a society functions and grows. It is as if you were trying to give parental advice and trying to come up with the absolute best solution for raising a child to mind his manners. You simply can't unless you are rigid and do not allow for any outside interference. This has been proven throughout time that the most contaminating object is human interference in itself. What we in sociology want to understand is just how to control this contamination. Popper's ideas simply are oil and water in this matter of affairs.
