This.
I became ignostic at age 20 and I haven't looked back.

I'm not trying to be cynical about love, I just meant I was 16 years old and knew nothing about the world. I'd had no experiences so I blew a simple crush out of proportion.

I still think about her sometimes, though.

I got into reading to impress an attractive English teacher I thought I was in love with. I was 16 then. Point being, doesn't really matter how you get into reading, any source of motivation is fine. Once you're in, there's so much to explore that you'll be hooked for life, if all goes well.

The first book I ever read (that wasn't pulp or YA and had some literary value) was The Great Gatsby. And it changed everything for me.
Just read some modern classics, OP. It's the best of both worlds (that is, the literary world and the realm of pop culture).

I saw him give the keynote address at the Melbourne Writer's Festival. With a speech prepared he's quite witty and commanding. However, once he opened the floor to audience questions he began stammering and equivocating like mad.

Still, he's fun to watch either way.

I heard Franco shot some test footage for Blood Meridian but it got rejected, which is a relief. The guy has been fighting to adapt it for a while now. I didn't know baout Child of God, but I see he managed to get his hands on Faulkner's As I Lay Dying too. I really hope he goes no further. A seasoned veteran should be adapting all these classics.

Possibly the greatest Hollywood adaptation in recent memory. It's pretty much page for page accurate, which usually never works. But the Coens make it work.

Pale Fire even more so. It's like a puzzle game after all.

As pop music goes, it could be a lot worse. Not terrible at all.

I love that guitar bit from Just that you linked, but it doesn't make me think of Radiohead at all. If no one had told me it was Radiohead I would never have guessed. I'll definitely give the album another go, just the same.

>>3412352
Love the production on this thing. If they free themselves up structurally I can see them really becoming something special. The Radiohead comparisons aren't completely ridiculous.

>>3412358
A classic. Love this thing to bits.

lol. Yeah I hate that shit.
I think on some level those people are just intimidated by the notion of someone judging their taste negatively or something. I personally enjoy opening up that discourse. I have the most interesting discussions with people who think my taste is terrible.

Ha, well thanks.

Never could get into any pre-OK Computer Radiohead. I might need to retry The Bends since I only gave it a cursory listen.

Only listened to Tago Mago myself. Can't wait to get to the rest of their discography.

Regardless of anyone's taste, it's nice to just have a chill music thread without the bullshit and abuse that comes with a busy board like /mu/.

Yeah, I meant what genre is it. Should have specified.

Too lazy to Google. I'm the worst kind of person.

Lateralus is based around the Fibonacci sequence/spiral. That's what he's referring to.

I think it's pretty cool. I consider it added depth as opposed to pretension, you don't need to pick up on it in order to appreciate the track. It's like an easter egg.

Damn, this one is too deep for me. I mean that earnestly. I plan to return to it one of these days and persist with it.

In a Silent Way is more my speed.

I'm gonna check this one out purely based on the album art. What is it, out of interest?

As modern prog bands go, I prefer the Volta. But this is a solid album.

I'd be interested in hearing about your taste, man. Post it. I'm always looking for new and challenging music. If you consider my taste boring then there's a possibility than whatever you post will be life-changing for me. Come on, it's all in good fun.

I like Frusciante, too. Though I'm not a Chili Peppers fan.

I'll have to get onto Octahedron soon, I'm kind of ashamed of myself for not having listened to the Volta's entire discography yet.

I'm yet to listen to any Beck. He's on my list. Is that the best album to start with?

Seeing as this is /lit/, I will also venture to post this album. My other modern favourite. It's fairly wordy for folk music. Well, I suppose it's progressive folk really.

Anybody here love/hate miss Newsom?
