You, sir, are a wizard.

I don't suppose you have anything along the lines of a person working in technology/computers and not futuristic scifi. What I had in mind was something like the movie Hackers (which was actually a terrible representation of hacking).

is the short story essentially a synopsis of the book? because that would be great for my purposes.

I'll read them, but I have to write a short paper by tomorrow, so I need something with sparknotes for now.

Pretty much anything heavily featuring technology would work.

Let me start by saying:
>Yes, this IS a homework assignment, so I don't need your rage.
>No, this assignment is not important in any way, shape, or form. Don't bother telling me to stop being a lazy fuck and do the work myself instead of using a sparknotes.

I have to write a reflection on a book that represents something I have a passion for. I'm looking for any book with a decent sparknotes that is related to IT/computers/etc.

Thanks in advance.

That isn't what I got from this. That would be based on the assumption that the source of the evil of Africa, and the people. I'm under the impression that Kurtz is greedy by nature. After all, Europe imperialized on all parts of Africa where valuable resources were to be found. If Africa was the root of the evil, wouldn't the tribes have ALREADY been at war, trying to take each other's Ivory and other resources for personal gain? I think that the only way Achebe could find racism in this book is to begin reading, looking for racism. He's just a hack with an agenda.

my bad, I didn't even really consider whether Achebe was male or female when reading his response.

Anyways, any opinions or input on this?

So I've just read Heart of Darkness, and Achebe's "Image of Africa" response to the book.

Personally, I don't think much of what Achebe is saying is necessarily accurate, as if she's arguing against a point he wasn't making.

In my opinion, the representation of Africa in the novella was to demonstrate how the natives were being taken advantage of, and Kurtz is something of a modern day economist, brutally imperializing on a small scale, searching for Ivory to turn a quick profit. On the other hand, Marlow is something like the savior of the natives. Kurtz convinces them to treat him as a god and exploits them simply because he can. I don't think that it's portraying racism, as much as the idea that people will exploit and harm others due to greed.

Exactly. I think there was an entire chapter about his rock climbing excursion in Alaska, and it was awful. It had absolutely nothing to do with McCandless, and I completely forgot what was happening with Chris by the time he had finished.

Anyways, have you noticed any other discrepancies I could discuss in my paper?

Implying I'm not well over halfway done, and only need another idea to write about before I'm done. Maybe stop being a raging douchebag and help somebody out for once.

>>1680716
Some of the stories he wrote were relevant, including the ones about the writers who inspired chris. However, I didn't feel it was necessary for Krakauer to give us his whole life story simply because he felt he could relate to Chris.

He did mention wanting to have a wife and kids some day, so I'm under the impression Chris wanted to return as an ordinary citizen at some point. Maybe he saw conquering the Alaskan wilderness as his final frontier before being satisfied and returning to society.

Remember when he abandoned his car and burned his money? Why did he keep $300 for 16 weeks in the alaskan wilderness if he didn't have any intentions to return to society?

Then again, the book tells us he gave the trucker who dropped him off there his last $0.85, so I'm not completely sure what I believe.

I did read the book, moron. If you payed attention to what I said, you would know that I didn't enjoy the tangents krakauer went on IN THE BOOK, that weren't in the movie. Fuck off.

>> No.1680582 [View]

I made a thread thirteen minutes before this one popped up about Chris McCandless, and I'm assuming somebody posted this to help me out considering all I got was a big "fuck off" in my thread.

Does anybody have opinions as to whether the movie or book was better? Some key differences in the two that were good/bad?
The only thing I've come up with is that Krakauer goes off on random tangents about himself and writers such as thoreau who inspired chris. This was omitted from the movie, and I'm glad it was.

Barely payed attention to the movie and book, which I read several weeks ago. I could bullshit an essay if I had something to work off of.

I'm not looking for a paragraph or page on the differences in the book, but just a sentence that I could elaborate on. Obviously I read the book and watched the movie, but I need a couple ideas to work with.

Hi, I'm writing a paper comparing the book "Into The Wild" to the movie.

What are some differences/similarities I should write about?

So far, all I've come up with is the random tangents Krakauer goes off on in the novel (including personal stories etc.) that I didn't care for.
