>Do you read for more than 10 hours at a time, without breaks?

As someone who went traveling with a Kindle recently - I regularly read more than 10 hours worth of books without charging, or necessarily having access to a charger. The ridiculously good battery life of a kindle shouldn't be underestimated as a draw.

Not really what I'm looking for, I want stuff I can memorise beforehand and then think about - it's manual labour, I won't have any access to a computer.

/lit/izens, I have recently started a new job. It is mindnumbingly boring. As such, I am coming to you for help.

I want deep philosophical problems or whatever for me to mull over during whilst I endure my 10-hour days - just watching the clock while I work gets old fast.

So ethical questions, ancient riddles or philosophical conundrums - lets hear them.

Pic related, it's deep shit.

Any particular areas of them that you'd recommend? Pretty broad fields there.

>>1769453

Why? I know how to research things, I'm just asking for recommendations on topics that anon has found particularly interesting.

I'm looking for specific topics to research, not just directions to resources.

I don't have quite enough time for "everything" though - probably a week at most.

>history of the jetpack

Fuck yes I'm learning about this. The universe is pretty cool too, but I've already read into that a fair bit during various procrastination sessions.

I don't study English so this isn't so directly relevant - but I did love English Lit while still at secondary school, and I suppose this can only help my appreciation of the books I read.

TL;DR: What do you find interesting?

You /lit/inati are an interesting bunch. So, give me some interesting things to read about.

I'm currently effectively quarantined in my room in halls - infectious disease and all that shit - and will be for the next week or so. As such, I want interesting things to spend my time reading about - I don't want to waste this opportunity just watching Lost or some shit. Obviously books will be difficult, as I can't go to the library. Hence I'm thinking topics that I can start from wikipedia, and then move from there - I've access to a large number of academic journals through JSTOR and the like.

I'm currently planning to look into John Locke's political theory, creation myths and old-school gangster rap - more suggestions appreciated.

I can't help but think this entire thread is just an excuse for D&E to use that oh-so-witty play on words.

Oh my god those have got to be the best cookies ever.

So you're asking for fantasy, basically? If you want strange, I recommend Clive Barker. His stuff tends to involve the "real" world and fantasy (though not in the traditional, LoTR-style fantasy) worlds colliding for whatever reason - he's one of the few fantasy authors I can stand. You'd probably like Imajica - it's difficult to describe succinctly without giving much away, but rest assured it contains bizarre and strange worlds, tackles big themes such as sex, death, etc. and is just generally very well written.

Black Swan didn't even bring me close to tears - but nonetheless, it is a fucking incredible film, without a doubt worth watching.

Absolutely.

But the fact that one learns something from it does not alone make it art (and indeed is not a necessary condition of being art) - one wouldn't consider the instructions for putting together an IKEA cabinet art, despite the fact that one learns from it, and conversely Duchamp's Fountain is considered art despite the fact that you don't learn anything from it (directly at least).

Utilty =/= artistic merit.

But I would argue that video games do indeed have the potential to be art. I'm hard-pushed to name any one that really qualifies as a great piece of art, but it's certainly possible.

Shit tier: your opinion.

That said, One Hundred Years of Solitude has been empirically proven to be godly.
