I dunno I found all of the pratchett novels to be in league with each other

Nation is my favorite of his works though, I think.

I read multiple books at a time, but I set my cap at about three for books I'm actively reading at once.

I have a nook. I love it for traveling and commuting on the bus because it's much more portable than a book is. As a person who commutes by bike a lot too, I enjoy the weight it frees up.

I do read it at home a lot if only because I often focus on a few books at a time and I don't really have a habit of having physical copies of the ebooks I own.

All in all it's not a huge difference for me, it has its advantages but I'm not going give away my books because I have one.

I write as a hobby. The problem is I can never come up with conflicts/resolutions that I like. They all feel very weak or stale.

I enjoy coming up with characters and turns of phrase but I just never know where to start with conflicts/resolutions/plotlines

Any words of sage advice from the /lit/erati?

/co/ mostly, used to post and lurk /v/ a lot but that place has degenerated past tolerable limits. I skip around on the other various hobby boards to mix it up every now and then.

I dunno how it reflects on what I enjoy in writing!

to be fair, though, it's hard to make high fantasy fiction any worse than it is naturally

I finished reading The Road yesterday. Reading that book was a pretty big bummer, but I enjoyed it because it was well written.

Still, it's a downer for sure. But different people have different thresholds for being emotionally affected by these kinds of things.

The entire book is not in second person. There are recurring segments that have a more traditional tense.

Also I read through it and enjoyed it. Did you put down a clockwork orange after ten pages because the main character's vernacular didn't instantly make sense to you?

It's a good book, I would say give it a chance and try reading a few chapters at least before just going deciding if it's not for you.

I think I COULD do that if I wasn't starting to hate Dave and John.

I mean I got this terrible mental image of John being Ethan from ctrl alt del and Dave being... whoever the straight-man is in that comic, and from that point on I had a very hard time being endeared by either of them.

Yeah, was just starting to dig into The Road right now. The way it's narrated, no quotes and a sort of bird's eye perspective on the events of the story, really gives the reader a sort of detached, shell-shocked perspective on the whole thing. Very appropriate.

After disliking it at first, liking it a little after a few chapters, I'm right back to disliking it.

The writing is bad. Sub-par if you're feeling generous.

It's not like, intolerable or anything. Certainly not Meyer, but I just don't like any of the characters and the plot is pretty much Baby's First Mindfuck. I guess I'll put it down for a while and pick up The Road or maybe try and finish Lolita.

I may end up giving it to my cousin. He ate up World War Z and he's the kind of guy who thinks the X-Men cartoons from the 90's were high art, so I'm sure he'll find it stimulating at least.

What did you /lit/erati think of it? Doesn't look like it's for me.
