Not quite, but close. Emotive hardcore (emocore) was actually a type of hardcore punk music from the 80s that dealt with philosophy, society, politics, depression, and relationships (both familial and erotic). It later split into screamo (skramz), mid-western emo, and the traditional emocore/post-hardcore. The stuff you're talking about spawned from a misunderstanding of the indie-rockish sound mid-western emo tended to produce, but of course not all mid-western emo had that sound. In short, emo is overly complicated and dumb.

To answer the OPs question though, no. Like >>6089805 stated emo is too personally driven and egoistic. Some types of screamo could, however, fit the bill. But screamo is a whole ball game unto itself, so it's not worth explaining. And this topic is dumb enough already. Dumb emo lesson over?
