Take it sentence by sentence. Read and reread. It's in English, so you will get it eventually. I don't mean to be rude, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

I don't think there was any irony or cynicism in shitty melodramatic YA to rebel against.

For most people, reading a lot is a prerequisite to writing well.

>How do i learn the mechanics of language and how to use them?
A grammar book.

>How do i get into philosophy and what are some good beginner/intermediate texts?
Literally start with the Greeks.

Also, it's an anonymous image board, so you can just say it's yours.

I don't see why a chart like this, if it were done well (i.e. more Shakespeare less shit) would "ruin everything."

Was New Sincerity a failure? Will anyone remember it existed twenty, fifty, one hundred years from now?

To me, great professors make all the difference, and the in-depth knowledge you get on Dante will probably be harder to get than survey knowledge on the Western Tradition.
I would definitely go for the Dante course.

Here's what Harold Bloom had to say about it:
Yes, I started reading him [Emerson] all day long, every day, and pretty much simultaneously reading Freud. People would look at me with amazement and say, Well, what about Thoreau? He at least counts for something. And I would look back at them in amazement and tell them what indeed was and is true, that Thoreau is deeply derivative of Emerson and very minor compared to him. Emerson is God.
