Can you tell the difference between an author creating beautiful prose and and an author masturbating to his knowledge of the dictionary?

Tell me why any work of Art needs a justification for it's existence, and I'll think about it. I think by creating arbitrary boundaries between genres and forms, you are breaking one of your own rules.

I don't read YA, but I do read comics and literature. So , please explain why I cannot enjoy both Sam Humphries' Green Lanterns and Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina? Is it inconceivable that someone couldn't possibly enjoy both the Hainish Cycle and John Donne or Andrew Marvell's poetry?

This board is swiftly sliding off into the abyss of stupidity. Let us, once the Athenian Academy of 4chan, discuss at length the Beauty and resonance of The Epic Of Gilgamesh. Open the copper box, and pick the tablet of Lapis Lazuli, so to speak.

So, you want to understand the the book without putting the time and effort in to read and ponder the book?

I think comics are their own medium, with their norms and expectations of quality. A sound narrative only makes half a graphic novel.

I learned Attic Greek solely to write a sequel to the Iliad about the travels and demise of Ajax.

So, /lit, I just finished Sopocles' Antigone. While reading it, I had a passing thought that perhaps the refusal of Creon to bury Polynices could have been inspired by the refusal of the Greeks to bury Greek mercenaries who died fighting fighting for Persia. Thoughts?

Since he is attacking me, I realize that this couldn't be the real Tolstoy and is probably a clone, genetically enhanced for murder. I stab him repeatedly with a kitchen knife.

Does he use it? I must confess I am somewhat unfamiliar with Joyce's work, but I would have expected him to be a free verse kinda guy.
