Heh. Speaking of Hamlet, same with happened with me. Thrice in as many classes over the years. Though i do like it. Not as much as.. uh.. The Scottish play.. but.. I enjoy country matters.

Someone in my family of my grandparents generation were named Arkady. Forget the English name he took.

I know Achilles was nicknamed to Killy like the Irish Killian.

Something Greek without Americanizing it. My screenname 'Xenos' is based on a relative's original Greek name which is also the name of a saint.

Always did like Athena, but that is pretty common in America. Zoe (life) too.

Evangelios (gospel) is tempting, epsecially as a former /a/ weeb. Had a sunday school teacher with the female version of the name, Evangelia.

Leonidas was the name of a beloved friend of the family I called just Leo as a kid. Plus my grandma who he was good friends with always told me about the 300 Spartans (even if it was my other grandpa whose family was from Sparta). It's not just Leonard and Leonardo. Though I am a DaVinci fan too, Leonidas is less known or used.

I kinda forgot Lee was still alive. She is no Salinger, but she was never a typical American author when it came to publicity.

I was always amazed since, reading it in class, that this was her one book and she kinda just went on with her life in her little town.

I have to wonder if this was a less idealistic look at her family and hometown. Mockingbird was the hopeful, but still dark, fiarytale about the south. This book is maybe more warts and all.

Atticus was the ideal father, the Superman. And this sequel is more Watchmen, if I may lurch into a /co/ comparison. More Evanjellyoon than classic Gundam, to be /a/ or /m/.

Now I have not gotten it or read it yet.
I am too scared, /lit/.
Hold me?

I comfess I still haven't read any of the Murakami books I got. Norwegian Wood, Sputnik Sweetheart, and.. I think a third.

I grabbed the bunch at a little bookshop on vacation one time because a friend of mine absolutely loves him and his work sounded interesting.

Yeah. The Catholics probrably did persecute them. Still doesn't make their beliefs Christian canon or make them automatically correct.

How can Christ be 100% one thing and also 100% not that thing? It does not make any logical sense.

Guess we have to take it on faith.

They did it to fight heretics in Spain who questioned Christ's divinity and just kept it that way to keep up appearances.

Then they were all like, "Upon this rock.. yadda yadda yadda. That means I'm the freaking Pope." And then declaired themselves head of all Christianity.

Crazy ass Papists. They make the bloody Coptics look sensible.

Actually, whoops. That wasn't a thrift store I got the Eisner book in, it was a full on used book store. Though the same street has like two or three thrift stores. I found Colbert's first book at a Good Will further out in good condition and first printing too. Also got Good Will Hunting on DVD finally. Seemed kinda fitting.

Oh and I found some old 50s sci fi novels by some female author who had to pretend she was male to get work. Among the lot that did, she was still one of the lesser known. Can't remember the name or find her now.

Oh yeah. At a thrift / record / clothing whatever store nearby I found a first edition paperback of Dharma Bums from 1958 for a few bucks.

I walked by one the other day.. then I walked back to it and went in, like some magnetic source. I got an older book by Will Eisner about writing and drawing comics books. Might be a bit /co/, but that's what I picked up. Never mind I got plenty of novels bought new and used that are just piled up.

Plus I bought a used one off Amazon recently.. only to find the person shipped it to me was from my old home town and selling stuff from his house or something. Hell, I should do that. Got enough books and comics. Pass them along.

Oh and it was I Am Legend, because I've wanted to get it ever since a friend told me the story (and the twist) and I didn't want a damned copy with Woll Smith on the cover. I need to do the same with I, Robot. Been meaning to read those. I was in grade school reading Asimov's non-fiction books in the library. Wish I had grabbed those.

This one is annoying on many levels.
One, it takes away from the original graphic novel. Yet.. It turns out Alan Moore negotiated that an author friend of his named Steve Moore (no relation) to write the novelization. When the time came to do the same for Watchmen, Warners said they would.. then changed their mind and they fired Steve Moore and canceled it... just as Steve Moore was suffering from cancer and had bills to pay. Classy, Warners. Classy.

>>3413580 > I'm not staring at the cover when I'm reading anyway, and when I've finished it goes on the shelf and all I can see is the spine. If I was really bothered I'd just by it on Amazon, you can pretty much pick which edition/cover you want.
Yeah. That is pretty awesome. I think this pet peeve got me interested in looking at older editions of books.

Also, in general, I think I just can't stand Will Smith and shitty movie adaptations. So I can't stand when the movie completely changes the original book. And even more hilarious when they list the screenwriters on the damn cover.

Hey, /lit/, do you hate it when publishers stick a movie poster on a book and call it a cover?

Not to be a wannabe poser like this guy, but I hate how a book jacket design gets tossed out and replaced with a movie poster. If I like the damn movie.. and lord knows that is usually not the case.. I will buy the DVD. If I like the poster, that doesn't mean it makes for a good book cover design and I'd just as well put it on my wall.

Anyone else hate this trend?
