something else about how i read: my mind automatically tries to make everything I read sound like someone actually talking/an audiobook. I guess I'm just naturally more of an auditory learner, and this is my brain's way of compensating for the lack of audio. This, I think, makes my reading incredibly slower, however. Anyone have any idea on how I can stop doing that while still getting the same level of comprehension?

I really want to enjoy reading, but I always get caught up in how slow I am at it.I take a good 30 minutes to read like 10 pages. Do any of you nerds have any tips on how to read faster? All other tips I've seen online have been hella retarded, I'm not going to write in my books or skip words. So is there some other way to speed myself up?

I'd join that shit in a heartbeat. It's a bit of a risk to start something like that, though. Would you even find enough people to start a club? My college needs 20 students, and two professors to sign a form before a club can begin ops. Reading is already a niche category, and having your club read the meme tri would cull the numbers even more. It's a good idea, though.

Most /lit/ posters don't know the context of the pics they post. They're there for aesthetics.

We already have a club for the mentally disordered, funnily enough. From what I heard, most clubs go down that way anyway. They're spearheaded by students with faded dreams and aspirations of what they want their club to be like, but with no know-how as to how they'll manage it. Most clubs sink within a month. Most clubs are there for the credentials.

My college doesn't have any clubs within the realm of language arts. I'm looking to start my own shitty book club, but I don't think I can handle all the responsibilities associated with it. There's a lot more paperwork than there needs to be in order to start these fucking things, and to keep it going. Clubs here also need to reach a minimum quota of collective volunteering hours every semester. Fuck that.

That being said, if you were to start your own club, what would you guys name it? What books would you recommend your club to read?

Fellow English majors (and former), how's it going?

What have you published? Have you?

What are you working on now?

How were your classes?

What advice can you give to someone who's sincerely interested in following a major in English?

Publishers won't sign you unless they believe that your works can make money. Doesn't matter how good it is if it can't generate a cash flow. It doesn't matter how shit it is either.

Booktubers already have decent followings, so there's at least minimum platform of people willing to buy that author's books.

At the time I started reading Lolita, I had been studying French every day for about 11 months.

I understood about 75% of the French our friend Humbert Humbert kept using. The remaining quarter was just idiomatic expressions, in which case resulted in me having to look up the translations anyway.

A friend of mine whom is fluent in French, says that the inclusion of those phrases didn't add much anyway; I agree with her. They were probably just a way for Nabokov to flex his language skills.

If you care enough about missing the translations to the point of making a thread about it, you would have bought yourself an annotated version. Not worth it, really. They add just as much weight as does the French in Jane Eyre.

The thing is that you're just as concerned about vanity as the people whom you are talking about. You're just jealous about how you can't fit in with /lit/. It must be so embarrassing to know how you're on a lower echelon than people who only watch black and red films, or people who only read novels in their original language.

Why the fuck would you care what everyone else is thinking when you genuinely enjoy an activity?

I asked for some samples a few threads ago, and you never delivered; do you remember? What are the temperature of your feet?

Find an author that has the style you're going for, and then read his works. Be sure not to copy them directly, and do put your own voice into your writing.

Honestly, most question threads could simply be answered by "read more."

It's a nice resolution to have, but these aren't words that you can use in everyday vernacular. People would look at you funny if you did.

What's the point? I'm not criticizing you, just wondering if you've got your marbles in the right bag.

Is this really what people think when they see others holding books?

I do this with textbooks, and occasionally with whatever I'm reading for the day, because my bag can't fit everything in it.

Should I feel bad for forgetting basic grammar rules that I've learned in grade school?

At times, I have difficulty with differentiating between simple parts of speech, like: predicates (simple, complete, compound, nominative, adjective, etc.), direct and indirect objects, what a prepositional phrase is, appositives, subject complements, etc.

English is not my mother tongue, however, I do have a damn good grasp of the language, and of the grammar. It's just when I come across some technical terms, I draw blanks, then shamefully look up the definitions of said terms. I start to question what I really know about English. Does anybody feel the same?

How useful is it really, to have the definitions of what a fucking correlative conjunction is, or to be able to tell the difference between restrictive and non-restrictive appositives?
