Without shifting production from Utah, they're stuck at 3.71 SRB diameter so the only thing they can do is add a fifth segment to make it taller.
The Ares I upper stage was inspired by the Space Shuttle External Tank and the Saturn IVB. It has about the same volume as the S-IVB, and an engine from the same J-2 family.
Between those, the result being this tall, interestingly proportioned rocket.
