The universe is a metastable phase. Like a soap bubble. It will eventually collapse and disappear. The way it disappears won't be a sudden POP like soap bubbles in your bath tub. But rather a slow degradation i.e. maximum entropy and proton decay. It will take an ungodly amount of time but in the end there will be nothing distinguishable left in a rarefied universe except redshifted photons zipping around.
