hey /sci/

this board is filled with dumb people, they use fallacies/give unsupported opinions witout citing studies or quoting scientists in relevant fields.
ive made a lot of good quality threads, but they always die after i question the bases of opinions given.

i see stupidity all around me/ and i long for a community of like minded people. they will already have left this board long ago but if some of you are still out here, please tell me where smart people hang out online and discuss ideas without brainlet interference. and i can understand why you wouldnt post it here so ill leave you my e-mail adress.

Azototh@protonmail.com

this will be my last thread on here.

oh and the brainlets can discuss IQ/CS/engineering/climate change and AI in this thread.

Ok what do you want to discuss? I agree that the quality of /sci/ has dropped over the years but that's the case for 4chan in general. The last years have been rough for all boards and I feel like the average age is younger and younger every year and probably also third worlders with smartphones

please give me constructive criticism. you will learn that i am quite open to it.

>>10391931

its not so much the topics i want to discuss. i just feel like we should be a community with aligned goals: truth/prosperity/happiness through the scientific method, and the way that poeple argue for certain positions contradicts that. also the extreme arrogance and making of assumptions that some people here exhibit are ones i would find in common factory workers.

I would also like to know what exactly do you want to discuss. No meta bullshit please.

Most people here now come from 2016 /pol/ they go to the IQ threads the schizo threads and religious topics. You have highschoolers larping about majors and asking about majors. You have bachelor students larping about 300k starting and memeing about which majors are better than others.

What's left is people making specific science threads which then gets posted in by some /pol/ religious people. Some Schizos. Mostly student larpers being extremely smug and arrogant and a guy or two genuinely willing to discuss the topic.

The solution is not to leave but to consistently post in the quality you want the threads turn out to be. This is one of the last anonymous bastions on the internet. It would be a waste if it were to die out.

Then be the change you want to see and start making good threads. As an academic with a reputation, I enjoy the anonymity here, even if the pajeets and popsci-IQ kids are a drag.

allright, first of all i am not a finished person, with locked interests and a set of topics that id liek to discuss/ my life is subject to change and i post here when i meet with a problem or interesting subject in my life that i am curious about.

i can tell you what those topics CURRENTLY are:

Autodidactic skills in maths and physics
child abuse and its consequences
physical health/diet

i am not a m,athematician/physicist
i am a 23 year old dude looking to improve himself, and being less able to do so due to an abundance of idiots and a lack of likeminded people with critical thinking skills.

This will not work. The anonymous nature of 4chan will mean that there will never be consistent high-quality discussion. Most people come here to shitpost and collect (you) s and this will never change. In the case of /sci/ this means this will always be a place full of smug engineering students, tards discussing pseudo science, and autists calling each other retards.
The ideal would be to find intelligent people irl to discuss with but I think the reason most people stay on 4chan, apart from autism, is to collect their daily shot of dopamine by winning an argument, baiting people, or getting validation.

You are not only scholastic, but also narcissistic and autistic. People like you are never open to constructive criticism.
You think you are special? You aren't. You are just a 23 year old kid who has done nothing in his life and still thinks he is better than everyone else. So not only you are not better than anyone else here, but actually you are a lot worse because despite being a nobody, you also suffer from narcissism.
> they use fallacies/give unsupported opinions witout citing studies or quoting scientists in relevant fields
People say their opinions. They don't have to site 100 studies to say an opinion. This is not a research, it is a discussion board. An anonymous discussion board. So yes it will be filled with brainlets and trolls. It just comes with the territory. If you want to have "important" discussions with "distinguished" minds, you should become a researcher, do some important research, get acknowledged by academia, and then you can talk with real "intellectuals", otherwise you are stuck with brainlets, autists and trolls like us.
Because that's what you are.

ytoure right about that i have done nothing in my life, and im working on it. i might never make it.
i have soime kind of inner feeling that if i work hard and consistently improve myself i can eventually become something that you would call special. i believe in my own potential.

but i dont feel like narccicistic and autistic are what i am. can you explain to me how you think i should be/think? if you could change me what would you change bout my way of thinking and why?

I've decided this place is mainly good for rapid iteration. That's the baseline standard I set, and I doubt allow it to train meas though these are real people in the real world. There's a certain metric, a certain purpose, and I stay focused on that as much as possible. If you view these as real people you'll be turned stupid slowly. Pretty much act as though people are legit, but have no expectations that aren't strictly self contained and solely about you.

>> No.10392007

>>10391983
The entire reason why 4chan is unique to discussing with intelligent people IRL is the anonymous nature. It means you don't have to take ego into consideration or be worried about what the other person thinks about you and therefor your arguments can include a lot of topics and depth that they wouldn't be able to IRL.

Try discussing the difference in neuron count in mammals between female and males of their species and it would be a very awkward discussion due to all kinds of assumptions and implications.

Have that discussion on something like /sci/ and as long as you ignore poltards it can actually be interesting. That's just one example of course.

>> No.10392009

>>10392000

i dont propose to censor ideas, but you cant suggest that should respect each persons world view in the same amount. i might then go door to door ringing bells trying to talk to poeple hearing what their world view is. there are things and arguments that are logical and those that are not.

>Autodidactic skills in maths and physics
I am a mathematician who is working in physics and have some experience in teaching. Ask away (or even better, create a new thread on this topic).
>child abuse and its consequences
Happy to discuss, but not on /sci/. Not sure what board fits better. Meanwhile, I'd recommend you to read up on how people (and children in particular) lived in, say, medieval times; in times of war; in concentration camps.
>physical health/diet
Create a thread and discuss away. Probably /fit/ or something similar would be a better.. hmm.. fit. I would definitely have somethyto say about it from the neurophysiological perspective (to the best of my knowledge).
>i am not a m,athematician/physicist
>i am a 23 year old dude looking to improve himself, and being less able to do so due to an abundance of idiots and a lack of likeminded people with critical thinking skills.
Never consider yourself to be better than others. You only see a single facet of them which is likely to be a mask or an escapism tool. I can draw, play two instruments, I know 4 languages (only 3 fluently, though), and I know plenty of math and physics, from quantum field theory and geometric quantization to noncommutative algebras and etale cohomologies. And I never think of others as "idiots" or consider myself superior, because there are many criteria and important characteristics of individuals, and it is likely other people (and anons here) do not have a perfect life. We've all suffered, our dreams crushed, we all went, or will go, through losing someone close.
