Undergrad only matters so far as the opputunities for research and internships. The advantage to going to top unis undergrad in America is primarily them having those opportunities in spades. Even if you are a mediocre student undergrad you can still pull an internship. If you are doing Finance its extremely important because you usually have to get recruited into those jobs from top schools. Its rare otherwise. Apart from that it doesn't really matter and is more dependent on how good of a student you are, initiative and shit. Most French Grand Ecoles are considered pure grad schools by most due to the degrees they offer, so they aren't listed. The only ones that would truly compete with MIT are Poly and ENS.
