bs, firms won't invest in low-co2 tech because their competitor would just take advantage of it.
With the tax, the choice to do business with minimum co2 becomes a level playfield.
Competition does the rest.

You mean we have to wait until the boomers die off? this is just a lie they keep spewing so they can keep the gravy train going until it doesn't affect them anymore. we need to act NOW

>> No.10626955

carbon taxes are bullshit because the cost just gets shoved along to the consumer and so many of the most polluting industries are pretty much essential for regular assholes. nobody's going to not have electricity (if that's even legal where they live) even if the price gets jacked up 20% by carbon taxes.

we can't market our way out of climate change. markets are too short-sighted. government regulation is the only chance we have

why target all the greenhouse gases when we can just target companies and people for tax money. reminds me of the soda tax b.s. tax soda and people won't drink it so much was the line but it was just a blatant money grab. what's next are they going to take all our money away because we may pollute or something?

>> No.10627317

>>10626998
i believe the motivation was well-intentioned but the failure was typical neolib "if we turn everything in a market tuned JUST RIGHT we can fix every problem" idiocy, not corrupt intent

Most americans would gladly make humanity get completely wiped out and every human on earth die in 50 years if it would save them $5 on their tax return THIS year
