In the distant future, if we wanted to move planets around, whether it’s to capture a rogue planet (rocky or gas giant) passing by the solar system, moving the Earth into a new orbit as the sun expands, or moving a moon of Jupiter or Saturn, how would we do it?

We would have a large object perform a gravitational slingshot around a planet. This would cause our object to accelerate, and since energy can’t be created or destroyed the planet in question would have to decelerate causing it to fall closer to the sun in its orbit. We can also send a large object at such an angle it’s velocity would be added to that of the planet causing the planet to rise in its orbit around the sun.
This is already being used by NASA we use this technique for our deep space probes, and is One of NASAs go to options to change the orbit of asteroids that are on a collision path with earth

Swinging a 100-km diameter object by earth once every 500 years would do the trick.
The trick being - expand Earth's orbit radius by 50% in 1 billion years.
The flinged asteroid could then be directed around Jupiter to get more speed.

Btw Swindon is often on a tv programme called 999 what's your emergency. Average calls to the emergency service involve issues like the 'pizza delivery man brought the wrong pizza' and 'my dealer stitched me up, can the police help'. God knows how they manage this roundabout
