And it's a theory I haven't worked out too much. But being this something concerning to psychology studies is way out of my field. Such extreme cases that are unlikely yo happen could be considered as too deviated to a standard situation and therefore discarded.

Otherwise, the effect of averaging should consider the individuals capacities to get influenced by the group and to influence the group. Just like a charisma stat in a character on roleplay game, to give an example.
