Well, I almost never thought that this day would come, but with the conclusion of SW89, PJW may finally come to a close, as well! This is probably gonna be a short one though, so let's get started!

You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force!

"I now pronounce you husband and wife."

The words still echo in your head, even many minutes after they've been uttered, as if it were all part of a dream. Your mind still can't quite process it all as real.

But here you were, hand in hand with Janice, a literal angel in her white wedding dress. And in front of you, there had to be dozens, no, hundreds of guests clapping enthusiastically.

"I thought you said this would be a SMALL and PRIVATE affair." You hiss to Janice.

"Eheheheheh, I'm sorry about that." Janice laughs nervously. "Me and Mom got a little... er... carried away when we were organizing the guest list..."

"You might as well have invited the entire damn Air Force here." You sigh.

Indeed, there were a very high number of military dress uniforms among the crowd, composing almost half of the guests. You can immediately spot the majority of them being USAF, with a few dozen or so uniforms from the other services sprinkled about. Hell, you even see RUSSIAN uniforms in the mix, as well!

"Well, come one!" Janice giggles as she tugs at your arm. "It's time to socialize! Come on!"

>Find your family.
>Find your squadron.
>See if Colonel Kelsey is here.
>See what the Russians are doing here.

Well, this is it! This will probably be the final thread before we go on extended hiatus. However, I'll try to make this a proper enough conclusion in case this is the last thread period!

Your heart stops when you hear Kelsey's words.

"What do you mean Laika's down?!" You yell, instinctively grabbing Kelsey by the collar. However, to his credit, Kelsey does nothing to stop you. "How did this happen?!"

"It's my fault." Sokolov sighs. "There was a backdoor I missed."

"What are you talking about?" You growl as you finally let go of Kelsey.

"Sokolov, explain it to him." Kelsey sighs, straightening out his uniform.

"Well, you see, the VDNI Laika uses is technology that was funded and developed by GRU." Sokolov explains. "All of the hardware and software was developed in Russia. Naturally, I rooted out all of the backdoors hidden in the programming, or at least I thought I did..."

"How does that explain things?" You ask.

"While Laika was on patrol, her craft received an encrypted transmission from a Russian transmitter. I believe that was a signal to trigger the backdoor in her VDNI implant, which immediately ejected her from the craft."

"We had two F-15s flying CAP that visually confirmed a chute, but it fell on the Russian side of the border." Kelsey says grimly. "Without Laika at the controls, the XF-19 defaulted to autopilot and returned to base."

"So what are we going to do about it?" You demand.

"We narrowed down the possible places she could been taken. However, I need to contact NATO Command and the Joint Chiefs to get authorization for a rescue mission." Kelsey says.

>Do it, then.
>Screw that, we're going right now.

"Will!"

You're caught off guard when Janice tackle hugs you the moment you step off of the Osprey, pressing her face against yours in quick but passionate kiss.

"Whoa, better rein it in or Janice might get knocked up again." Red chuckles.

"Y-yes, I heard that a single act of kissing or even holding hands can cause it!" Misono nods.

"You don't really believe that, do you, Miso?" Red raises an eyebrow.

"Of course! It is common knowledge in Japan!" Misono insists.

And you have just been told that two of the witches under your command, one of which you are dating... are both pregnant.

"Are... are you sure?" You feel your chest tighten and your legs liquefy and you stumble backwards into the wall. "It has to be come kind of mistake, right?"

"I had them redo the tests three times." Kelsey sighs. "I wouldn't have come here if I wasn't sure."

"Well... what happens now?" You whisper, clearly distressed.

"Well, legally and ethically, I'm obligated to inform them." Kelsey grunts, obviously not looking forward to the duty. "But considering the current situation, discretion might be the better alternative."

"Well, how does the Air Force normally handle things like these?" You ask.

"Normally, pregnancy is a massive violation of our non-fraternization policy." Kelsey explains. "Assuming the violating personnel aren't discharged, we'd certainly cycle them into a noncombat post or forced leave. However, that only applies to regular personnel. Witches, I'm not too sure about since they exist outside standard chain of command."

"Are there any precedents?" You ask.

"Plenty." Kelsey snorts. "I did a little research. Apparently it wasn't uncommon for witches to go into battle when expecting. I recall a story during the Martian War where one particular witch who airdropped into Normandy was 8 months in and literally delivered on the battlefield. However, that's one of the outliers."

It's a rather quiet ride as you sit in the back of the Osprey while Bullseye is at the helm. Your current destination was a French villa that Nungesser happened to own both for a bit of medical leave, as well as give your newest impromptu addition, the little witch Artya, a place to lay low for a while. However, as far as Bullseye was concerned, he was just flying you to a place owned by a friend of Janice's. You had elected not to tell him Nungesser was involved, both for the potential comedy as well as the fact that he might have just turned around and defected to Russia instead.

According to the timing, it would be an overnight flight over Europe, with a few refueling stops on the way. With your UN credentials, you practically had unlimited access with no questions asked, so it was a pretty nice setup. However, that would mean you'd be spending the night in the air, and basically be arriving at the villa in the morning, so you suggested to Laika, Misono, and Laika that they get sleep. Unfortunately, they decided to all sleep on you, with Misono and Arta's heads each taking a shoulder and Laika sitting securely in your lap.

It was a long, and somewhat tense ride back to the UN base. As Red and Rex administered whatever first aid they could to Strelok and his men, you personally saw to the young witch they had found, which they had dubbed the "Little One." Now that you had a better chance to examine her, you noted that even with her shields, she was not much better off than the sick and wounded Ukrainian soldiers she was protecting. She allowed you to cut away the oversized uniform and rags she was wearing as improvised clothing, and you noted numerous cuts and bruises. The extent of any radiation poisoning she suffered was a bit harder to determine.

"All right, I need to check your face for any wounds and for fever." You say, unsure of whether she could actually understand you. You point to your own face and mime taking off your mask for added emphasis.

The Little One shakes her head rapidly and clutches her mask tightly with both hands.

"She resists any attempt to take the mask off. Believe me, we have tried." Strelok warns from his seat.

"Need some help, Cap?" Red says, walking up to you. "I could hit her up with a tranq. Never know what hit her."

>Yeah, we need to get that mask off.
>I think it can wait till we get back.

Currently, you and Red were hustling through a forest near the irradiated Russian/Ukrainian border. You weren't too sure whether you were actually in Russia or Ukraine right now, but that distinction was purely academic at this point.

However, what was more worry was the the fact that your normally white radiation badge was starting to darken, the edges already turning charcoal black. Even with Red's shield, you were still getting exposure.

"Must be getting closer to a hot spot." Red pants. You can't see her face through the MOPP mask, but you can tell she's fatigued.

"We should stop to rest." You say, putting a hand on Red's shoulder to stop her.

"We don't have time for that!" Red grunts as she brushes your hand off. "There's people that need our help out there! And if the Russians don't get them the radiation will!"

>Okay, let's keep going.

Already, you were intercepted by Russian fighters, which Laika had managed to chase away. It was clear that the Russians didn't want anybody coming near the place.

Meanwhile, the ejected Russian pilot from the Flanker Laika shot down was sitting in one of the seats, securely tied up and kept under guard by Hoskins and Rex.

"We'll be at our designed LZ in five minutes!" Bullseye calls out. "Get ready!"

When you landed at Lviv, you figured that things didn't look as bad as they seemed. Sure, the streets were practically empty save for roving police patrols due to emergency curfews, and the airport was closed to all but military and aid flights. You didn't even get a good chance look at the city. The moment you stepped off the transport, you were all immediately hustled off to a fleet of waiting chinooks, these ones bearing the emblem of the United Nations rather than the USAF.

However, the the situation quickly changed as you flew further east. Below, you could see the roads choked with countless vehicles and bodies as refugees fled west to escape the nuclear holocaust. You felt helpless having to see things from above.

"How horrible..." Janice mutters as she looks out the small viewport.

"It just never ends." Red adds in.

"And these are just the people fit enough to move." Tarin mutters. "It's going to be worse when we get to Poltava."

>You shouldn't talk like that, Tarin.

You were having such a good day.

Sitting in the mess hall with Janice, Laika, Misono, and the rest of your squadron, eating breakfast and setting up a schedule for the day when a pair of AFSOC personnel entered your office and told you that Colonel Kesley required your immediate presence. Their tone and demeanor indicated that this was an issue not up to debate, so you and Janice had to reluctantly leave with them. They quietly escorted you to a waiting SUV which proceeded to take you to your destination.

"What do you think this is about?" You ask your partner.

"I don't know, but it can't be good." Janice frowns as she points out the window. Outside, you can see a squadron of F-16s scrambling like their asses were on fire. There weren't any alarms or klaxons going off, so it wasn't an incoming attack. Definitely some kind of precautionary measure, though.

"I suppose we'll find out soon." You sigh.

Currently, you were on a rapidly sinking cruise liner, having just rescued a bunch of American, Japanese, and Chinese diplomats in the midst of peace negotiations that were rudely interrupted by Russian-backed forces. The diplomats were safely tucked away in a Navy Phrog, but you still had two squad members unaccounted for, Red and Misono.

"You guys go ahead!" You wave off to Goblin. "I still need to find two of my people!"

"Good luck." Goblin nods to you as he motions for the Phrog pilot to take off.

The cruise ship rumbles again as you scramble back towards the banquet hall. However, it's alarmingly empty.

Meanwhile, all around you, chaos reigns. Euclid and Ugly work on picking off the gunboats forming a defensive perimeter around the cruise ship, darting in and out and unloading magic arrows and hellfire missiles into their now smoking and ruined hulls. The gunboats make a valiant effort of fight back, their guns roar and spitting tracers into the night, but they're at a distinct disadvantage.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" You frown as you watch Misono (trying) to fly in a fresh set of F-22 strikers. However, as you had quickly found out, though Misono was very skilled with the sword, she actually did not have much real combat experience, having been shuttled around various home island defense squadrons. Her late father's doing, you suspect.

That meant she had to deal with suddenly being put into an advanced set of strikers, not to mention having to deal with acclimatization sickness. Apparently, her symptoms manifested as minor allergic reactions. Lots of dizziness, stuffy nose, and sneezing.

"I-I'm fine, sir!" Misono manages to utter before sneezing, her body spinning lazily in the air. "It's not as bad as yesterday!"

"She's still going at it?" Janice asks as she wheels Laika in.

"Yeah, the girl just doesn't know how to give up." You chuckle. "But she's doing pretty well. She can do all the basic and advanced maneuvers, despite the lingering symptoms."

"Ah, that's good to hear. Tarin and Jetstream seemed have nothing but good things to say about her development." Janice smiles and nods.

"You can do it, big sis!" Laika yells encouragingly.

Misono only manages to give a weak thumbs up with one hand as she holds a handkerchief up to her nose with the other.

"Is it because of the Chinese wanting to pull out?" You ask.

"Officially, neither side's leadership will comment on the current state of the conflict, citing security concerns." Kelsey says simply. "Unofficially, and according to rumor, China has silently agreed to a ceasefire while peace negotiations are underway. Of course, you didn't hear that from me."

Your eyes slowly creak open as the morning sunlight filters though the trees. However, that wasn't what woke you up. More specifically, what woke you up was the noise, or more specifically, the lack of it.

No gunfire, no artillery shells falling, no explosions. It was... QUIET.

Kind of a pity, you think.

However, just a little distance away at the main camp, you could hear all of the regular activity going on. Vehicles moving back and forth, and troops either being marched in or evacced out. Just a huge buzz of activity in general.

You are Colonel ELISA HESSLER, a proud Panzer witch of the German armed forces!

It felt good to back in Europe. Back where it wasn't so hot and humid, and where your fellow witches spoke the same native language as you and didn't have so many silly customs. It was a refreshing change of pace to be back home.

However, things were far busier here than they ever were in Asia. The moment you stepped off the transport plane, you were immediately rushed off to the frontline near the Polish border. You never even got a chance to say hello to your grandfather, much less the rest of your family, to let the know you were back in Europe.

Well, that was war, you suppose. At least you had Elsa with you to keep you sane.

However, your commanding officer's voice snaps you back to attention.

"Is that clear, Colonel Hessler?" General Manfred Rommel asks softly but sternly.

"My apologies, General, I was distracted." You droop your head in guilt. "I'm afraid I didn't catch any of that at all."

You are Captain BREEANA PIERCE, a witch of the United States Air Force.

"So how are the new strikers feeling, Captain?" Sam asks as you slowly float up to operational altitude.

"I don't feel like I'm going to puke anymore, if that's what you mean." You sigh. Even though the worst of the acclimation effects for the new FB-22 strikers have passed by now, your legs still itched incessantly. However, that was just a minor inconvenience. At least you were able to fly in the damn things now. Fortunately, it seems Sam, Jen, and Tiff have gotten the hang of them too. Actually, they recovered much more quickly than you, no doubt because they were younger and had less striker experience. Still, you were a bit jealous of that.

You are Captain BREEANA PIERCE, a witch of the United States Air Force.

You sigh, looking at the massive stack of personnel transfer documents sitting on your desk. These past months had not been kind to your unit, and ironically enough, not from the Soviets, but your own damn side. With all the constant flights they were making, a lot of the AF squadrons in Europe were getting dwindled down by attrition, mostly from exhaustion and combat stress. This meant every squadron was always on the hunt for fresh witches, especially experienced ones.
