It would have a lot of practical use, it's essentially a glaive, the scythes badass cousin. The fact that you twist the length of the thing around creates massive amounts of torque, which means that the cutting force on the tip of blade is just completely asinine.

No, standard metal spatula. Soft pine fence, but still, those things have zero balance.

Definitely. Any stick with a blade at the end, especially reinforced through he whole haft, is a good weapon in the hands of someoen who knows what they're doing with it.

Mind you, I would use that strictly as a two handed weapon. Using something that heavy in one hand (aside from short thrusts with one hand near the blade) is asking for someone to take it away from you.

I think they look really exotic but still functional, which is a big plus.

Mainly the reason why I like them is the feeling they have in the hand. I've held khukris, falcata, and kopis. They all have this hand feel that really lends to chopping and hacking. It kinda just makes you want to attack things when you're holding them. Like it just feels right to kill something with them.

What are you're views on machetes /tg/? I know they're not build for warfare but history has shown us that they are a major armament for guerrillas and marauders across the globe. I think its neat that nowdays for ~$10-20 dollars you can buy a good functional tool that doubles as a sword. Just stay away from zombie-anything, chinese made blades, stainless steel, and anything labels "katana".

>> No.41086114

I think they have a certain savage charm to them.

>> No.41086159

They're so widely used around the world because of that reason. They're cheap and easy to buy in bulk, and they're pretty effective weapons.

>> No.41086313
File: 212 KB, 848x1553, PC2044N_l.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

There's actually a couple really significant things wrong with that design.

1. That axe head is FAR to bulky, it's probably about twice as massive as it needs to be, and you want an axe to be just as heavy as necessary and not an ounce more. Handweapons are all about speed. This is set up like a splitting maul.

2. That handle is much to short, you can't generate much leverage.

pic related are much more reasonable proportions.

>> No.41086811

Machetes are pretty cool. A falchion is the closest thing to a machete that is actually made for war.

Also wasn't the kukri (first and third ones from right-to-left) an actual weapon, i mean, actually made for warfare?

> A falchion is the closest thing to a machete that is actually made for war.

No its not.

that's like saying a VW Beetle is the closest thing to a Porsche 911 for racing, just because they're a similar shape.

Machetes are for chopping wood, they have no guard, no counterbalancing pommel, and they rarely have distal profiling. There are many types of Falchions, only one (the oldest type) is a similar shape to a machete, and they are entirely different in cross-section - far, far thinner, lighter, and designed for cutting unarmoured targets, not stationary undergrowth.

>> No.41088930

That's more of a hatchet then an axe. Hatchets have shorter handles and thicker heads then normal, due to the fact that you need more weight in the head to generate the force. With a hatchet you want a fairly heavy head to swing around, since you're not going to have the travel on the swing to generate the power.

Also it's not a hand weapon, it's made for splitting and chopping wood.

The one with the most speed and reach. If you can get through anything with just a flick, then no current sword design would be the best. You'd have to redesign pretty much all of them to get the best.

You'd probably look at a hand an a half rapier that's normally used for training for starting, since the shape or edge of the blade doesn't matter.

You'd be stabbed quicker than you could whip it around.

>> No.41089357

You don't need weight though. There's no need. Everything would just phase through the blade.
