One thing I find promising with mobile emulation is touch screen heavy games for obvious reasons. It works really well with games that were ass to emulate before. I got these iphone stylus thingies for it and think I'll have fun with it

That's not how that works. Those things found in the ROM were in memory, RAM, at the time, and because of how languages like C work, and the memory being handled incorrectly, it sucked in adjacent things...in this case, a few filename strings and the html of a website presently in-memory. Fucking up memory boundaries is the basis of a number of attacks and flaws even to this day.

10958839 No.10958839 [Reply] [Original]

I find Mother 3's themes of social alienation amidst an increasingly evil and immoral society to be the most poignant thing I've ever seen in a video game. The experience of Lucas seeing his world go through radical changes after the time skip from chapter 3 to 4 seems to directly mirror what my own experience has been like living in the real world post 2020. I could get into specifics, but I think you can probably infer the kinds of things I'm referring to by that. I actually had to put the game down shortly after I got to chapter 4 during my last attempted playthrough in 2022, because this aspect was just too depressing for me. I always knew Mother 3 had a reputation for being a "sad" game because of what happens in chapter 1, but it turns out that doesn't even scratch the surface of how fucked up this game gets. I'm trying to give it another go, and I just got to chapter 4. I intend to see it through all the way this time. Can anyone here relate to my feelings about this? I think it's worth discussing and acknowledging, because this game clearly has something very poignant and relevant to say about society and our willingness to completely drop our previously held "moral values" and ostracize people when they don't go along with whatever hip new flavor-of-the-month social pressures that de-facto authority figures impose on everyone.

10958443 No.10958443 [Reply] [Original]

It's common, when anything is successful, in any kind of industry... it'll get copied, especially at a time where hype is high, this was the case for all of the major Nintendo franchises, it happened to Sonic in the early 90's, and it also happened with Crash Bandicoot ever since his OG title came out in 1996... though, for some reason, this corridor style of 3D platformer never really took off like the Collect-A-Thon did after Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie made it big... why is that? Well, we did get a few Crash Bandicoot inspired titles on the PS1 at least, though after the early 2000 it's sort of, well... dead, even Crash died for a while.

I've always loved Disney growing up, mainly the Donald Duck stuff since his anger issues made it a little less embarassing for me, as an angry kid, to cope with my own anger issues... and the PS1 version of Goin' Quacker/Quack Attack feels like a genuinely good Crash styled platformer, not as good as Crash really, but with a ton going for it, I especially like how you could unlock costumes in this for Donald to use. I also got a kick out of the Lilo & Stitch title on PS1, especially playing with Stitch since he felt a lot like Crash anyways... and I also liked the PS1 Scooby-Doo despite knowing it's pretty mediocre all things considered, I like it.

>What 3D corridor platformers did you play?

I fucking love videogame lads.
Apart from "fun", what are the reasons you play/invest in games?
I've been disabled for the last 2 years, and will be for another couple of months.

Purchased some consoles once I realized I was going to be home bound for a while, and modded them. Having full access to libraries while having my friends over was, and still is my way to bond while I'm still in a quite immobile state.
It's a great escape for me, because Lord knows I'm tired of staring at the ceiling.
Very much reminds me of childhood times, passing the ps1 controller around while playing Hercules/that x-men vs game. Having that sort of escapism as a coping mechanism allowed me to stay away from worse vices, but also make some beautiful memories socially.

My public library has a few stand-up Pandora cabinets at different branches. Seeing as how the machines are illegal and violate thousands of copyrights, I'd like to indirectly pressure the library to sell them off so I can offer to buy one for cheap.
Where can I go to snitch on them to get the ball rolling on this?
>but that's bad!
Nobody is using these things. Nobody. Kiddies don't care about old arcade games. They're in pretty good condition and the standing cabinet is pretty nice.
>go buy your own
I don't want to put money into the chinese mame machine market. My library has erred by spending money for these things and putting them out for public use, so this is an opportunity to get something I want in an agreeable fashion. Maybe I can even get them all if they're willing to unload them overnight.

>> No.10958389

The library will have had a contract with the vendor where the vendor states that they have the rights to sell the product, and the library is blameless, whether or not the library actually knows the vendor has no such rights. This is the same loophole that allows small-time merchants to print Marvel t-shirts and sell them at cons. So, good luck with your scam, but I doubt it'll go the way you think.

>they couldn't picture a child with a small body frame and a small sword being able to take over larger enemies in a 3D space on sword combat like it was possible in Zelda 1 and ALttP.
That's fucking stupid... they're Nintendo and they don't fucking know who the fuck Link is?
If you can't picture some little snot nosed brat who has fucking magical items stuck up so far up his pepper ring he can fucking life boulders of multi-thousand pounds. He can fucking jump over fucking houses, he can turn to a fairy, he can run nonstop like the wind, he can trudge through all weather, he can fucking walk on water, Shoot fireballs, teleport with the wind, reflect magic, polymorph enemies, and bring down lightning against everything in his path.
So the first two games alone he has stupid feats as a child and he had a fucking triforce to boot.

Plus this coming from a country where fucking Dragonball exists? A cartoon where a tiny child fights an army with tanks, missiles and bullets and no one bats an eye? Or even worse Arale before Goku grew up.

By the time OoT was being developed gaming and anime and shit was littered with the world being saved by a bunch of drama club teen virgins who weighed fifty lbs soaking wet. A trend that's only gotten worse with time.

I mean linear levels are more fun then dungeons. N64 is too weak for complex lttp dungeons.
