This thread makes me question how old dads are and how old posters are. Anyway, my own dad was a raging alcoholic and hated everything that had to do with video games and our relationship was greatly strained because of that. Pic related is the one game I remember us playing together, when we were both new to video games and he was trying to be a good father to his son.

I'm in the mood to get punished. What's the best version of this game? NES? Arcade? PSP? Other?

Did you know? Contrary to popular belief, it's possible to beat this without bitching the whole time!

This game is fucking horrible

SMB2 does have a few of "those" levels that still give me trouble for the sheer amount of artificial shit they pull, but the game is otherwise beatable, especially if you abuse selective warping. I even managed to max out the stars on my title screen at some point.

Now, GnG on the other hand....

Jesus fuck, this game. What the hell is this? I can't even beat it once, let alone twice in a row for the "true" ending. The controls have that horrible early '80s clunkiness and those devils are just retarded.

I've heard in the Famicom version you have to do the whole thing with only two hits, because when you die once the entire game restarts. The hell kind of bullshit is that? Has anyone ever managed to do that without cheating or using the level select code?

Be honest: How many of you have actually beat this game? How many of you have even managed to beat the first level?

Why is such a terrible port held in such high regard?

I'd get it if people talked about the arcade version, but its always the NES version that people have fond memories for. I wish more people had played the arcade version originally.

Beat it on my first playthrough without dying once. Never understood how people thought it was hard.
